Breakfast on Pluto star Cillian Murphy came away empty-handed at the Golden Globes on Monday, but he was given a hero's welcome when he was on hand for the European premiere of his film last week in Dublin. Murphy joined fellow cast members for the event, which raised in excess of €100,000 for UNICEF. The Cork native and new dad was dressed for success at the Irish party in a conservative navy suit that he also sported at the Golden Globes. Does he think an Oscar nod awaits? "It would be very nice but I don't think about those things too much," he told the media. Maybe not, but the film's financial backers are sure hoping for a little something when the nominees are announced at the end of the month, which would surely help boost the acclaimed but little seen film into the public conscious. Stephen Rea, Murphy’s co-star, thinks Americans should really go for Pluto, which was directed by Neil Jordan based on the novel by Patrick McCabe. "Americans always go for sex. They are not interested in politics, history or the IRA. They are interested in sex—and this is a sexy movie," he said. Nice to see Mr. Rea has such a high opinion of us Yanks! Bono, taking a break from U2's grueling "Vertigo" tour which resumes next month, made the premiere with his wife Ali. His good friend Gavin Friday has a part in the film as a sexually ambiguous musician drawn to Murphy’s transvestite character. Scariest sighting at the premiere? Pogues rocker Shane MacGowan sharing some red carpet time with Kitty Neeson, mother of Liam who also was featured in Pluto. Hopefully he didn't frighten the kindly Mrs. Neeson, a frequent visitor to New York, too much!
